Southern CaliforniaIntegrated GPS Network
The Southern California Integrated GPS Network consists of 50 GPS receiving sites in the greater Los Angeles area operated by JPL, UCSD, and the USGS in coordination with the Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC). New sites are constantly being installed, and the network will eventually consist of 250 stations. This network continuously records GPS data. Scientists use the data to measure the movement of Earth's crust associated with the many faults in Southern California.
